美國聯邦參議院當地時間18日晚間通過「2018財政年度國防授權法」（The National Defense Authorization Act of 2018，NDAA2018），除大幅增加軍費讓美軍添購武器外，更將要求行政部門提交美、台雙方軍艦互訪停靠的評估報告，正式寫入參院版法案。
NDAA2018提高2.1%國防預算，達到6400億美元，允許軍方採購F-35戰機、M1戰車與軍艦，並批准近50億美元給阿富汗安全部隊，包括一項將女性納入阿富汗國防的計畫。
針對北韓飛彈威脅，NDAA2018還批准85億美元推動美國飛彈防衛系統，比川普總統要求的預算足足多了6.3億美元。
NDAA2018首度寫入美台軍艦互訪內容，要求美國五角大廈在2018年9月1日前，遞交評估報告，包括美國軍艦訪問高雄港或其他港口的可行性評估，以及接受台灣提出停泊夏威夷、關島或其他地點的進港要求的評估報告。
美國國會每年審查國防授權法案，立法部門會對如何執行國防預算提出各種意見，但是國會表達立法部門的看法與見解，對行政部門並不具強制約束力。因此，美、台雙方軍艦能否互訪，關鍵因素仍在於行政部門，尤其是白宮的態度。

澳洲總理滕博爾（Malcolm Turnbull）今天（30日）表示，澳洲當局成功阻止企圖炸毀一架飛機的恐攻陰謀，並在當地時間29日晚逮捕四名男子。目前，澳洲所有機場都已加強戒備，預防恐攻事件發生。
澳洲警方透露，警方查覺到恐怖分子意圖以簡易爆炸裝置炸毀一架飛機，因此在29日晚展開聯合反恐行動，成功遏阻恐怖分子陰謀。
滕博爾表示，目前警方反恐行動仍持續進行。警方也透露，警方正就恐怖分子攻擊動機進行調查。
自2014年至今，這是澳洲第13度遭遇恐怖威脅。
